Iraqi immigrant arrested for child rape in Helsinki Two other foreigners released after being cleared from suspicions

An Iraqi man was arrested by police in the Finnish capital of Helsinki, after receiving tips of suspected sexual abuse on children. The man was arrested in an apartment together with two other immigrant men. The other men were later released after police cleared them of all suspicions.

The arrested suspect is, according to police, a foreigner born in the 1990’s and according to newspaper Iltalehti he is a citizen of Iraq. He is held on charges of severe rape and sexual assault on a child.

 

Small child victim of rape and sexual assault
– The victim is a small child and our investigation shows a number of suspected crimes between the beginning of October until the 9th of January. The crimes have been committed in a private residence, says chief detective sergeant Saara Asmundela.

– According to current information no other persons have been present in the apartment.

 

Police raided apartment building
An eye witness tells Finnish newspaper Iltalehti that police raided an apartment building Saturday night in Kasberget district of Helsinki and that officers surrounded the building to prevent any escape. Four squad cars were used during the operation, which lasted a couple of hours.

Police doesn’t reveal any more details at this moment.
